Carrefour China and Wal-mart China announced that they have started removing toxic facial masks produced by Shanghai-based Tayoi Cosmetics Company from their shelves.
According to the latest test results of the State Food and Drug Administration, the company’s facial masks were found to contain excessive toxins, reports Nanfang Daily on Monday. the Tayoi whitening day cream, also found to be overly toxic, will remain on the shelves.
Mercury, carbolic acid and hydroquinone were found in Tayoi’s whitening rehydration masks and whitening day cream.Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that can cause mental disorders. Carbolic acid damages the skin, liver and kidney. And hydroquinone is a skin whitening agent that can cause headaches or nausea.
Alongside of Tayoi products, the State Food and Drug Administration discovered 16 other kinds of cosmetics that were not meeting standards, most of which were whitening, and freckle removing products. Thirteen of the questionable products were manufactured in Guangdong province.
